What English top flight mode is
38 Wins is a draft game, not a manager sim. You do not buy players or pick tactics week to week. You get eleven spins, and each one lands on a real English squad from a real season — the Leicester of 2016, the Liverpool of 2022, the Luton of 2024. From each squad you take exactly one player and place him somewhere on your pitch.
Then it is out of your hands. The season is simulated from the eleven players you chose and where you chose to play them: attack, defence and midfield are read off their attributes, and every one of the thirty-eight matches is played out from those rates. A great striker in the wrong shirt costs you. A back four of centre-halves playing as full-backs costs you.
English top flight mode changes one thing: where the squads come from. Instead of 165 clubs across Europe's top five divisions, the draw is English only.
The pool: 35 clubs, 220 squads
Each club appears once for every season it spent in the division, so a club is really a set of squads rather than one. That is 220 distinct club-seasons, 2015–2025.

The spread is deliberate. The ever-presents come up eleven times and a one-season side comes up once, which is what the real division looked like — so the draw feels like English football rather than a flat twenty-club lottery.
What 38-0-0 actually means
Thirty-eight matches, thirty-eight wins, no draws and no defeats. At three points a win that is 114 points. For comparison, the best English top-flight seasons since the division went to thirty-eight games in 1995/96:

Arsenal's unbeaten season is the closest anyone has come to immortality in England, and it is still twenty-four points short of what this game asks for. Going a season without losing is hard. Going a season without drawing is a different order of problem — and it is why the draw is the result that kills a run here.
How likely is a perfect season?
Measured over thousands of simulated drafts of this pool: a careless draft goes unbeaten roughly once in 1,746 attempts. A careful one — players in their natural positions, a protected spine, attributes read rather than skimmed — manages it about once in 47.
That gap is the whole game. Luck decides which squads you are shown. Everything after that is yours.
How to play
- Choose English top flight as your competition, then a mode and a formation.
- Spin. The reel lands on a real club and season and shows you its squad.
- Pick one player — and read the attributes, not just the grade.
- Place him in a position. Playing someone out of position is the most common way a promising draft quietly falls apart.
- Repeat eleven times, then simulate the season and find out where you finish.

None of them is the easy one. European league mode is deeper, but a lot of the squads you would be shown are clubs you have never watched. World Cup mode is shorter and more brutal — one bad round and it is over. This one asks the same question about players you already have opinions about.

Which clubs can I get?
Every club that has played a season in the English top flight between 2015 to 2025 — 35 clubs in all, from the ever-presents down to the sides that came up, stayed a year and went straight back down.
Each club appears once for every season it played, so a club is really a set of squads: the Arsenal of 2018 and the Arsenal of 2025 are different draws with different players.
Can I get the same club twice in one draft?
Yes, but never on consecutive spins. A club you have just been shown sits out the next few rounds before it can come back, so a draft moves around the division instead of parking on one side.
A player is different: once you have drafted someone he is gone. If he turns up again in another season's squad you will see him greyed out. One player, one spot.
How is this different from European league mode?
The pool. European league mode draws from 165 clubs across England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France. This one draws only from the English division — a fraction as many squads, all of them sides you have actually watched.
Everything else is the same: eleven spins, eleven picks, a formation of your choosing, and a 38-game season simulated from the XI you built. Each mode keeps its own leaderboard, because a score set in one pool is not comparable to a score set in another.
One measured difference is worth knowing: because the great sides are a much larger share of 35 clubs than of 165, a perfect season here is about 2.1 times more reachable for a careless drafter, and about 2.6 times for a careful one. English top flight is the accessible board, and saying so beats pretending otherwise. That is the other reason the boards are separate.
Has any real team ever won every game?
Not over a 38-game season, and not in England. Arsenal went a whole season unbeaten in 2003/04 and still drew twelve of their thirty-eight — the only unbeaten campaign of the modern era, and still not 38-0-0.
The 100-point season of 2017/18 is the points record and it came with four draws and two defeats. The theoretical maximum is 114. Nobody has been within fourteen of it. You have to go back to Preston North End in 1888/89 — twenty-two games, four of them drawn — for an unbeaten English champion before Arsenal.
